We’re back, Buffalo!
Buffalo Carshare is operated by the same dedicated folks who ran the program over 10 years ago. In 2015 there were insurance challenges in New York State that caused the program to be shut down. Since then, the NY Senate passed a bill providing insurance protections for nonprofit carsharing. As of August 2025, we are back with the same commitment to make community-driven carsharing as affordable as possible. Except now the program is better! We have even more sophisticated technology and bilingual member services staff.

- One time application fee is non refundable (covers cost of checking your driving record)
- Driving rates are taxable
- Maximum reservation length is 24 hours
- First 100 miles for each reservation are included; $0.55/mile for additional miles
- Buffalo Carshare is open to members 21 years or older with a valid drivers’ license, clean driving record and valid credit, debit, or prepaid card.
How it works
Join
Create an account through our app and upload photos of your driver’s license. It may take a few days to process your membership. (Android / iOS)
Reserve
Use the app to reserve a vehicle (date/time)
Pick up the car
When you arrive, check the car for damage and unplug it.
Drive!
Use the app to access the car. (You can use the app to lock the car when making stops during your trip.)
Return the car
Bring the car back to its home location. Plug it back in and use the app to end your reservation.
